Last week our incredible group of CT Kids had their first Jiu-Jitsu Camp of the Summer! We used the week to explore different scenarios and positions and ensure that our mindset was right in each. From the first day where we discussed outcomes from the standing position until we wrapped up with submission options and competition etiquette, all of the kids were covered with smiles each day we were on the mat.
They were each able to create their own flow chart following along with the different transitions including the point system in order to prepare some of our kids for their first tournament that concluded the week. Perhaps the most important part of each session was at the end, where we discussed emotions. All of them discussed their fears, anxieties and their nerves going in to test their skills for the first time. We were able to discuss them openly and realize that all of us felt the same emotions and that it was OK to have them. By Saturday the nerves were gone and they’d been replaced with only happiness.
It was an absolute pleasure working with the kids last week and I can’t wait for our next session in July! OSS!
