Over the last several days, our overlying focus has been escaping from bad positions and recovering back to good ones. Whether the position was Kesagatame or Side Control, we worked on creating frames, escaping our hips, and returning to an offensive position. The Closed Guard was one of those positions, and is where we will be working from this week.
On Monday and Tuesday, our focus will be breaking our opponent’s posture and taking advantage of their reaction when fighting back. The Sit-Up Sweep is an awesome Lesson Plan to use as base attack from Closed Guard, and there are many options to follow it up with:

On Wednesday, we will begin addressing the Kimura – a very powerful shoulder lock that works great from several different positions. Using it with the Sit-Up Sweep makes a great combo attack, with lots of details in these techniques!
