This past Saturday, we had the honor of hosting UFC BJJ Light Heavyweight Champion and ADCC veteran Mason Fowler for a No-Gi seminar at the Caio Terra Academy of Irving, Texas.
From the moment Mason stepped on the mat, the energy in the room was different. The seminar was packed wall to wall with students eager to absorb his approach to rubber guard, transitions, and submission setups. Over the course of several hours, Mason broke down some of the finer details that make his game so effective — from the way he controls his opponent with body alignment before going for the attack.
One of the biggest takeaways was Mason’s focus on maintaining control without sacrificing mobility. He emphasized using angles and controlled transitions rather than explosive movements — a lesson that resonated with everyone from white belts to black belts.
After the technique portion, Mason opened up the mats for live rolling, giving students the rare opportunity to test concepts under his watchful eye. The mix of intensity and learning created the kind of environment that reminds everyone why we love Jiu-Jitsu.
We’re grateful to Mason for sharing his knowledge and time with our team, and to everyone who came out to train, learn, and build the community. Stay tuned for future seminars and training opportunities at CTA Irving — where we’re committed to bringing the highest level of Jiu-Jitsu to our students every single week.
