Our team had another outstanding showing at the IBJJF Dallas Open, and we couldn’t be more proud of Cornell and Jake for representing CTA Irving with incredible skill and composure.
Cornell put together two exceptional matches on his way to capturing Gold! His strategy, patience, and technical execution were on full display as he relied on fundamental techniques taught every day at our academy. From Sasae Tsurikomi Ashi and De La Riva X Guard to a crushing Smash Pass and a precise Sleeve Drag, Cornell demonstrated that solid fundamentals truly win matches. Even more impressive, he did not allow a single point to his opponents throughout the tournament.
Jake also delivered an outstanding performance, earning a silver medal after two exciting matches. He showcased a textbook Over/Under Pass and finished one of the most exciting moments of the day with a perfectly timed Homer Simpson Sweep right at the buzzer. His determination and technical growth continue to impress both on and off the competition mats.
